The short version
- You can read this website without giving us any personal information.
- We use Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages are used, so we can improve the site. We do not use advertising cookies, and we do not sell information.
- We collect personal information only when you choose to send it to us through a form.
- What you send the City may be a public record under Louisiana law.
Information you send us
When you submit a form (for example to report a problem, request a service, or apply for a job) we receive what you type into it, which may include your name, address, phone number, email address, utility account details, and any files you attach. We use it to respond to your request and to carry out City business related to it.
Submissions are stored in the City's website database, and a copy of what you submitted is emailed to the City department responsible. Attached files are kept in private storage that only authorized City staff can open.
Information collected automatically
- Spam and abuse protection. When you submit a form we compute a one-way, salted hash of your IP address so repeated abuse can be limited. The IP address itself is not stored with your submission. Forms are also protected by Cloudflare Turnstile, which checks that a submission comes from a person; Cloudflare processes your IP address and browser signals to do that under its own privacy policy.
- Visitor statistics. We use Google Analytics to understand how the site is used: which pages are viewed, how visitors arrive (for example from a search engine), and general information about the device and browser. Google processes this information for the City under its own privacy policy. What you type into a form is not sent to Google, and the pages City staff use to manage the site are not measured.
- Server logs. Like every website, our hosting provider briefly logs the address of each request, including IP address and browser type, to operate and secure the service.
Cookies and saved preferences
This website sets cookies that are strictly necessary to make it work: a sign-in cookie for City staff who manage the site's content and, while the site is in private preview, an access cookie for invited reviewers.
Google Analytics also sets its own cookies (named _ga and _ga_ followed by an ID) so that repeat visits can be counted. There are no advertising cookies. To opt out of Google Analytics, block cookies for this site in your browser settings or install Google's opt-out browser add-on.
If you press “Pause animations”, that choice is saved in your own browser so the site remembers it on your next visit. It is not a cookie, it is never sent to us, and clearing your browser's site data removes it.
Other companies involved
- Service providers. The website runs on hosting, database and email delivery services operated by other companies on the City's behalf. They may handle your information only to provide those services.
- Embedded video. A few pages show video from YouTube, Vimeo, Facebook or local news stations. Viewing such a page lets that company see your IP address. YouTube videos are loaded in its privacy-enhanced mode.
- Links to other websites. Online bill payment, permits and utility statements are provided on separate websites run by other companies. This policy does not cover them; read theirs before entering payment or account details.
Fonts and images for this website are served from the website itself. The only scripts loaded from other companies are Cloudflare Turnstile, on pages with a form, and Google Analytics.
Public records
The City of Broussard is subject to the Louisiana Public Records Law (La. R.S. 44:1 and following). Information you send the City, including through this website, may be a public record and may be disclosed on request unless an exemption applies. Do not send sensitive information such as a Social Security number or bank details through a website form unless the form specifically asks for it.
How long we keep it
Form submissions are kept for as long as the City's records retention schedule requires for that type of record, and then disposed of.
How we protect it
The website is served only over an encrypted connection. Access to submissions is limited to authorized City staff who sign in individually, and staff changes are logged. If a breach of personal information occurs, the City will notify affected residents as required by the Louisiana Database Security Breach Notification Law (La. R.S. 51:3071 and following).
Children
This website is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information.

Changes to this policy
