The City of Broussard — in partnership with its wholesale water supplier, Lafayette Utilities System — announces that full water pressure has been restored to affected areas in Broussard.
From the wholesale water side, a water meter was inspected and tested, and all system distribution points were checked to ensure water is flowing properly to the Broussard community. Broussard officials and LUS worked together to identify the problem. The partnership has long been a benefit to area residents.
For a few weeks, Broussard has been experiencing low water pressure. The Broussard public works department has taken numerous steps to determine the cause and rectify the issue. A wholesale water meter was showing lower than normal pressure, and a damaged fire hydrant from last week’s car accident further contributed to issues of low water pressure. It was the swift work of the LUS engineers and the Broussard water department that identified these different issues that improved the pressure on the Broussard water system.
“We regret the inconvenience this issue may have caused for residents and businesses, and we’re happy to say the situation has now been rectified. We know that low water pressure and flushing lines causes discolored water in a drinking water distribution system. While safe, discolored water is not acceptable. Broussard has current and future projects in place to upgrade the infrastructure of our water distribution system,” said Mayor Ray Bourque.
“We’re proud to partner with LUS and we appreciate their quick response in this matter. We will continue to work with LUS in the coming weeks to inspect all equipment to ensure that it is running at optimal levels,” continued Mayor Bourque.
“We value our relationship with the City of Broussard and want to ensure that their needs are met with high quality water and service,” said LUS Director Jeffrey Stewart.
