With the first quarter of 2021 behind us, I thought I would take this opportunity to report on some significant projects and milestones. Please feel free to share this information, and don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions about these or other projects.
· Contract signed for Phase 1 Envision Broussard and work should begin within one month. This $2.4 million project will happen along Main St., from S. Bernard Rd. to Clara St., and will include major drainage improvements, including a new box culvert to improve drainage near S. Bernard Rd. and Main St., as well as reconfiguration of drainage swales. There will also be an entry gateway structure, 10-foot-wide multiuse paths, signage, landscaping, and more. · A new 8-inch waterline has been installed at Bonin Rd. and Ambassador Caffery to a new meter at Classic Carwash. It then crosses Bonin Rd. and serves the Corner Market and AHS Walk-In Clinic. This $200,000 project allows us to plug and abandon a smaller water well that has previously served this area.
· Plans are underway to connect two waterlines along Albertson Parkway in order to increase water pressure. Closing this loop in the water system will provide better service to the homes and businesses in the area and improve Broussard's firefighting ability.
· The City of Broussard launched a new municipal website at www.cityofbroussard.com. This new website is easier to navigate and provides more information to our citizens and residents, including a section for visitors and tourists. It also has a Service Finder function, which allows users to quickly report issues and request city services. Utility bills can also be paid online.
· 15 New Business Occupation Licenses have been issued since Jan. 1, including salons, restaurants, marketing firms, and financial services, as well as roofing, tire, and motorcycle repair businesses.
· Broussard Sports Complex at St. Julien Park was the first recipient of the Team Louisiana Sports Supporter Award from the State of Louisiana, which honors a facility and its staff for enhancing the local community by driving sports tourism, creating economic impact, and bringing a positive influence. This award was based on 2019 data, during which our park yielded an estimated 31,400 spectators, 9,782 requested rooms, and $4.8 million in estimated economic impact.
· New playground equipment and pavilions have been installed at Ida Benoit Crouchet Memorial Park, located at 230 Loul St.
· A new 18-hole disc golf course is now open at St. Julien Park. This professional course meets the Professional Disk Golf Association’s requirements, so stay tuned for upcoming league information.
