Mayor's Update for September 2022

  • We are proud to share the news that the reconstruction of La Neuville Road is scheduled to begin in the 4th quarter of this year. As Broussard continues on a pace of rapid growth it is vital that infrastructure improvements remain a priority.
  • A multi-million, multi-year drainage improvement project along a four-mile stretch of Coulee Fortune in Broussard is set to begin in September. Hundreds of Broussard residents and business owners could see flooding relief in the years ahead. It is the most aggressive drainage project that Broussard has ever undertaken. The Acadiana Advocate
  • Loul’s Landing, a 64.80-acre site located in Broussard has been certified under the Louisiana Economic Development Certified Sites program. It is Broussard’s fifth certified site.
  • The City of Broussard was awarded a $7,500 grant from Lafayette Convention and Visitors Commission LafayetteTravel to help with the costs of transforming the historic Valsin Broussard House into a visitor center.
  • All right-of-ways/easements have been acquired for the third phase of the S. Bernard Road Project (Widening from Main St. to U.S. 90/Future I-49 South).
  • Construction on the Ambassador Caffery Parkway & U.S. 90 Interchange, a future I-49 South corridor project has begun. Step one is the removal of trees and structures in the rights-of-way.
  • The Broussard Fire Department is implementing a new mental health and wellness tool for its personnel. Lighthouse Health & Wellness is an online/mobile app platform available at no cost to public safety agencies. It was created to support the unique needs of those working in public safety.
  • The Broussard Chamber of Commerce hosted a gathering to hear from Dr. Shawn Wilson, Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD)Secretary, about the infrastructure projects in our area.
  • U.S. Senator John Kennedy visited Broussard to provide a congressional update at lunch hosted by One Acadiana and the Broussard Chamber of Commerce.
  • Before the sun is even up, Al Hebert News joined us live at Ton's Drive-In for coffee and conversations. Guests visited with us throughout the morning to share why it is always a great day in Broussard by discussing the many initiatives we are working on to enhance our City.
  • Congratulations to Katherine Grace Clothing Co on their one-year anniversary in Broussard.
  • Congratulations to ZenDog on opening their brand-new facility in Broussard. ZenDog is located in the former Family Dollar building on Albertson Pkwy.
  • Coffee for Cops at Community Honda Lafayette for their Acadiana law enforcement appreciation breakfast.
  • Kids Tennis Fall Clinics are open at Broussard Sports Complex at St. Julien Park. In these upcoming sessions, attendees will learn hand eye coordination, basic footwork skills, scoring, serving, and more! Ages 7-18 are encouraged to join.
  • After months of hard work, collaboration, and teamwork, we are announcing the Acadiana Alliance Plan. We have partnered with our friends and neighbors at the Youngsville Sports Complex and the Tony Robichaux Sports Complex in Crowley, along with our great partners 2D Sports and FASA. This alliance will offer us the opportunity to maximize our facility to its capacity for a good part of the year in our baseball pods.
  • Congratulations to our adult softball leagues for another successful season. We hosted three leagues this year, including adult co-ed, men’s competitive, and men’s non-competitive. Pictured are the champions of each league.
  • This month’s Coffee in Broussard will be held on Friday, September 23, at Jet Coffee (109 St. Nazaire Rd.) from 7-8:30 am. These community gatherings occur on the last Friday of every month. Come out and enjoy a cup of coffee with staff from city hall, the fire department, and the police department.
  • Join me as the City celebrates Grand Réveil Acadien / Great Acadian Awakening 2022 on Friday, October 7, 2022. Mark your calendar for this family-friendly event that celebrates the lasting cultural impact of the Acadian people in Broussard.
  • Whether you’re a beginning French-speaker or a life-long Francophile, everyone is welcome at the French Table. Join us on Friday, Oct. 7 at the Valsin Broussard House for lively conversation en francais! 8:30-10am, no registration needed. (French Table is normally held the second Friday of every month.)
